NFDA News: New USPS Shipping Requirement for Shipping Cremated Remains

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is the only shipping company that ships cremated remains. To increase the visibility of packages containing cremated remains and to ensure those packages are more secure for processing and a timely delivery, effective March 1, 2025, customers are required to use USPS Priority Mail Express Cremated Remains boxes (BOX-CRE) for all cremated remains shipments. This includes remains shipped as jewelry, blown glass or other artisan works of art.

We recommend that you order a few cremated remains kits to keep on hand to serve your customers.

Order Kit 1.

Order Kit 2.

If you do not have any kits in stock, please inform the families you serve that they must order the kits online from the Postal Store® if they are going to ship remains; post offices will only have a limited number of kits in stock.

Please go to the Postal Store®

For questions on shipping cremated remains, go to USPS.com’s Frequently Asked Questions page.
